Bill Beighe
CIO, Santa Cruz Health Information Exchange and Phyicians Medical Group, Santa Cruz, Calif.
Bill has been involved with the Santa Cruz Health Information Exchange since 1998 and joined Physicians Medical Group of Santa Cruz full time in 2001. Over that time the volume of clinical documents delivered across the HIE has risen 6 fold and the number of active electronic users recently passed 600. The HIE also provides bi-directional connections to another 80 physicians certified EMR’s thus providing the foundation for them to achieve Meaningful Use and access ARRA Stimulus funds. As CIO and HIPAA Security Officer, Bill is responsible for all data and VOIP systems at Physicians Medical Group, a 300 provider Independent Physicians Association and primary sponsor of the Health Information Exchange. A team of 12 supports the implementation and support of Practice Management and Electronic Health Records at many provider offices and clinics in the community. He led the organization through several major system upgrades from client-server technology to web delivery as well as a major database platform change. Bill organized PMG's Technology Committee which sets IT standards across the group. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California eHealth Collaborative (CAeHC) and the California Privacy & Security Advisory Board (CalPSAB) as well as the Technical Advisory Board advising California Health and Human Services (CHHS) on HIE development in California. Bill served on the Technology Work Group for CalRHIO and on the Patient Identification Sub-committee. Bill has a 26 year career in information technology having spent time in the systems integration business as well as working for major computer firms in a variety of Technical, Sales & Marketing and Management roles.
Dave Garets

Mr. Garets has 31 years of experience in information technology. He joined HIMSS Analytics in 2004 from Healthlink where he was Executive Vice President. Before that, he was Group Vice President, Healthcare Industry Research and Advisory Services at Gartner, Inc. Prior leadership roles included Senior Manager in Emerging Practices with the First Consulting Group and CIO of Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho. Before coming to the health care industry, Mr. Garets spent 13 years in various management capacities for AT&T. He was a course director and served on the faculties of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Information Management Executive Courses for 11 years. He serves on the editorial advisory boards of four health care information technology journals and magazines and the board of directors of HIMSS Analytics. He is an affiliate professor at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Garets is a HIMSS Fellow, and was chair of the HIMSS Board for 2003-2004. He is an internationally known author and speaker on information technologies, strategies, benchmarking, and the future of healthcare.

Gray Derrick

Gray Derrick is a member of Baird Holm’s Corporate Section and the Technology and Intellectual Property Practice Group. He focuses his practice on the development, acquisition and use of technology and other forms of intellectual property. Mr. Derrick received a Juris Doctor, with distinction, in 2001 from the University of Nebraska College of Law. During law school, he was a recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Bioethics, Law of Provider and Patient, and Negotiations. He also served on the Student Honor Court and as Third Year Class President. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with Honors, from the University of Florida in 1997.

Stephen Marvin has over 25 years of experience in IT and technology in a variety of industries predominately healthcare, hospitality and high-tech. Stephen served as a head of IT in various public hospitals and as a Regional Director for Columbia Hospital Corporation (acquired by HCA). Stephen led various projects and initiatives developing IP services including IP Telephony, IP video and IPTV. Presently, Stephen is a Strategic Specialist – Data Product Engineering with Windstream Communications. In this role, Stephen helps companies develop strategic solutions for advanced data services.

Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy
State of Nebraska
Rick Sheehy was appointed Lieutenant Governor by Nebraska’s 39th Governor Dave Heineman, and was sworn into office on January 24, 2005. As Lt. Governor, Sheehy serves as Nebraska’s director of homeland security, chairman of the Nebraska Information Technology Commission, presiding officer of the Nebraska Legislature, chairman of Nebraska Partners in Prevention and is involved in economic development efforts across the state. His experience as a local elected official and as a paramedic made him uniquely suited for the responsibility of coordinating Nebraska’s statewide homeland security efforts. Lt. Governor Sheehy is a member of the Homeland Security Advisors Council Executive Leadership Team for the National Governors Association, and since 2007 has served on the executive committee of the National Lieutenant Governors Association. He is a past board member of the Nebraska Rural Health Association, as well as a FEMA Disaster Response Team member. Sheehy’s community involvement includes membership in the Nebraska Rural Health Association, Nebraska State Trauma Advisory Board, Nebraska Emergency Medical Services Board, Mary Lanning Hospital Foundation Board.

Nancy Shank
Associate Director, University of Nebraska Public Policy Center
Nancy Shank is the Associate Director of the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center. The Center contributes to public policy by developing and making available objective analysis of public issues for the public, elected officials, executive agencies, and others who represent the diverse interests of Nebraskans. Nancy's work has focused on information technology and health and human services delivery systems. She is currently the lead researcher on a US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality- funded grant researching behavioral health providers' adoption of electronic health records. Nancy serves on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Technology and Human Services, and serves on the Nebraska Information Technology Commission eHealth Council and the National Human Service Data Consortium Board.

Sharon Welna

Sharon K. Welna is the associate director of information systems compliance and project planning at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. In her position, she is responsible for the implementation of HIPAA security regulations for UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital, UNMC Physicians, University Dental Associates and Nebraska Pediatric Practice Plan. Ms. Welna is also responsible for implementation of GLBA security regulations and PCI compliance. Ms. Welna has over 30 years of experience in health care information technology. She was a member of the Saint Joseph Hospital Strategic Planning Committee, the Creighton University Technology Advisory Committee, and the Information and Technology in the Workplace Planning Committee. She earned her B.A. degree in political science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her M.B.A. degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Deborah Bass, President, CEO of Bass & Associates, Inc. has served as the driving force of Bass & Associates, Inc. since its incorporation in February 1993. She has directed marketing, sales and recruiting for this information technology consulting business. A graduate of Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, majoring in health care administration, Deb spent 20 years in healthcare and educational settings as a RN before making the transition to business management. She, and Jon Bass, founded Bass & Associates in response to the demand for business and information technology consulting services. Bass & Associates currently employs over 85 I/T consultants offering I/T services in an 11-state region. Deborah has been recognized for her accomplishments as the recipient of many awards, including the 1999 Nebraska SBA Small Business Person of the Year and the 2002 ABWA Downtown Chapter Business Woman of the Year.

Kevin Conway

Kevin Conway, Vice President, Health Information for the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA), oversees the Nebraska Hospital Information System (NHIS) and other data and health information technology for the NHA. The NHA has been representing and supporting the needs of Nebraska’s rural and urban hospitals since 1927. Today, NHA supports and encourages its members in developing various health care delivery systems geared toward improving the health and well-being of Nebraska’s communities. Kevin has 25 years of experience in health care planning, finance and information technology with Nebraska organizations. Prior to joining NHA in 2000, Kevin worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, Lincoln General Hospital (BryanLGH Medical Center West), and Tabitha Health Care Services.
Susan Courtney

Susan Courtney was appointed Vice President and Chief Information Officer at BlueCross BlueShield of Nebraska in 2006, after 18 months with the company. As CIO, Susan is responsible for the technical execution of all corporate initiatives, including the largest Business Transformation effort in company history. Since she assumed her current role, Susan has accomplished several key initiatives. Among these are: leading the technical implementation of large scale Customer Service Center move, modernizing the technical infrastructure, migrating to a more effective Enterprise Data Warehouse environment, implementing a new Accounting System and restructuring key positions and processes. Lianne Stevens

Lianne is a senior level information technology professional with over 20 years of service in the healthcare industry. She has served in an IT management capacity in both community and academic hospital settings. Currently she serves as Vice President of Information Technology/CIO for The Nebraska Medical Center, one of the region's premier health systems serving 25 percent of the Omaha area market with its 689 licensed beds. She is responsible for the provision of information technology application and technical services for the organization. She provides guidance and support for the organization's Information Management (IM) Governance process through leadership of the Project Management Office structure. She is responsible for IT strategic planning in alignment with the organization's strategic priorities. She serves as chair of the hospital's IM Infrastructure Committee and The Joint Commission IM Committee. Lianne holds a Master of Science degree in Information Systems from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. She is a member of CHIME-HIMSS and the Project Management Institute and holds CPHIMS certification. She is also an ASCP registered medical technologist.

Sara Juster joined Methodist Health System in 2002 as compliance officer for Methodist Health System and Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, and was appointed Vice President, Administrative Affairs, in 2004. In her current role, she is responsible for legal and regulatory compliance, contract coordination, and professional and general liability claims. Prior to joining Methodist Health System, Juster worked as a judicial clerk for Nebraska Supreme Court Justice Thomas M. Shanahan, and served as legal counsel for the Berkshire Hathaway group of insurance companies. She also worked in a private law firm, where she specialized in estate planning and employment law. Juster earned her bachelor’s degree with high distinction from the University of Michigan in 1985 and graduated summa cum laude with a law degree from the Creighton University School of Law in Omaha in 1992. She is a member of the Nebraska and Iowa State Bar Associations and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management.

Greg Schieke, Senior Vice President of Wide River Technology Extension Center and CIMRO of Nebraska, has nearly 20 years experience in the QIO community, including positions as vice president, QI project director, and government liaison. He has served as the in-state leader of CIMRO of Nebraska since its inception in 2003, and most recently lead efforts to obtain a grant from ONCHIT to develop Wide River TEC as the Health Information Technology Regional Extention Center for Nebraska. Greg also instructed BA and MBA students for 11 years as adjunct professor of business administration.
